Research
Facilitator
Systems Administration + Research Coordination
Compensation: $200,000 starting salary, with benefits and opportunity for raises.
This role is for people who like facilitating research by organizing people and computer systems! Responsibilities fall into two categories:
- Sys Admin responsibilities:
- ensuring our research faculty are set up with relevant computer accounts, including Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, frontier AI providers, and cloud computing providers that may be idiosyncratic to their research;
- managing payments and budget allocations for researchers using these accounts;
- occasionally making minor updates to the MAISI website;
- Research Coordination responsibilities:
- helping researchers collate their work in a shared location that is easy for others to access and build upon;
- organizing schedules for research meetings and discussions;
- occasionally facilitating research discussions, such as by encouraging researchers to ask probing questions about each others’ approaches to AI safety.
Day to day, this will mean:
- configuring lots of computer systems,
- answering lots of email, Slack messages, and phone calls,
- deconfusing group threads with researchers and enterprise sales reps from whom MAISI is requesting services, and
- occasionally attending research group meetings to facilitate discussions and identify systemic ways to accelerate our team.
An ideal candidate is someone who:
- familiarizes quickly with new computer systems,
- has a high standard for interpersonal communication,
- enjoys receiving a lot of incoming communications in writing, telephone, and in-person,
- enjoys working with new people every week as they engage with us as research staff, visitors, or business partners, and
- is passionate about accelerating mathematical AI safety researchers learning about and producing more safety research.
